Mercury Detoxification

Mercury detoxification is crucial for health and disease prevention because mercury is the most toxic naturally occurring substance on earth. One of the Main Sources of Mercury Is Tuna

Mercury is a naturally occurring element, but some 2,000 tons of it enter the global environment each year from human-generated sources such as coal-burning power plants, incinerators and chlorine-producing plants. Deposited onto land or into water, mercury is picked up by microorganisms, which convert some of it to methylmercury, a highly toxic form that builds up in fish and the animals.

But now developments in the US, where evidence has emerged that eating too much tuna can lead to learning difficulties in children, have led to calls for action on this side of the Atlantic. Orange roughy, bluefin tuna, groupers and Chilean sea bass carry higher levels of mercury and PCBs.

US pressure group the Mercury Policy Project tested a sample of white albacore tuna and found levels of the heavy metal were significantly higher than in other tuna species and that 5% of tins analysed were so contaminated they should have been recalled as unfit for human consumption.

The project’s Michael Bender said the tests confirmed what the US regulator, the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA), had known since the 1990s.

The rate of mercury contamination in tuna and other Pacific fish has increased 30% since about 1990, and is expected to increase another 50% if China continues to build more coal-fired power plants to fuel its industrial revolution.

The data comes from a new federal study by the U.S. Geologic Survey that was published in the peer-reviewed scientific journal Global Biogeochemical Cycles.

Living near industrial plants with emission could be a mercury risk. Older filling can also increase them mercury levels within the body.

Mercury Detoxification

The body has the capacity to detoxify mercury if given time and a mercury free diet. If you have high levels of mercury you need to cut out all forms of tuna for a year.
